Very interesting given the fact that production F-16s didn't have the radar package necessary to fire an AIM-7. It wasn't until the ADF mod that the F-16 could carry an AIM-7.

I wonder what killed the idea of production F-16s carrying AIM-7s? It must have been a little bit of "Eagle" politics I imagine.

    F-16 AIM-7 capability

I heard, and it seemed to be relatively common knowledge around the Test people, that GD had offered to equip the A model F-16s with a Continuous Wave Illuminator that would support the F-16's AIM-7 launch and guide capability for a mere $10,000 an airplane but the Air Force turned it down so they could keep the budget up for the F-15 procurement.

The aircraft used to perform some tests with the AIM-7 Sparrow missile. Only with the introduction of the ADF version of the F-16, a BVR missile capacity was added to the airframe.
