This is all that remains of the tail of USAF F-16C block 30 #86-0343 from the 23rd FS which crashed into the Adriatic Sea on August 11th, 1993. [USAF photo]

This aircraft was lost on a Deny Flight mission out of Aviano AB, in Italy. Towards the end of the mission, just south of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the engine lost power (stall). The pilot was able to get enough out of the engine to make it to the Croatian.Coast and he was able to eject over a small island in the Adriatic, while the aircraft went down offshore. The pilot ejected safely and suffered no injuries.
