USAF F-16D #88-0157 of the 310th TFTS. This was a morning surprise for me! I was out shooting pics of home based Luke jets with a friend one Saturday morning. I was asked by the 310th weekend super if I would perform a high power engine run of this jet for them. The engine run guy assigned on that 'duty' was not 100% engine run qualified, but I was. They set up the jet on the open pad, note the restraint attached to the tail hook from the pad, and I just had to perform the run. I loved running on the open pad, because you could go into full AB and there was no sound suppression. You made a bunch of nois! While in AB, the jet would kind of 'dance' around because the restraint was holding back about 25,000 Lbs of thrust in full AB. My friend shot this pic of me running the jet in civilian clothes! 'Factory fresh' USAF F-16D block 42 of the 312th TFTS at Luke AFB shortly after acceptance by the USAF. The elastomeric coating on the F-16 radome weathered easily, so all AF units fabricated these nose covers to protect this coating. The pitot tube cover was velcroed on to the nose cover.
