Spotters reported a wrecked F-16 on runway 3L with a crash crane and clean up crew moving it onto a flatbed. It seems the nose and canopy were missing.

According to unofficial sources it seems at least one of the pilots has been seriously injured.

Base officials didn't disclose whether pilots were hurt or the amount of damage was.

Thoughts and prayers with the pilots and their families. Looks like some great work by the Nellis First Responders. That being said, WTF over! There are still many unknowns, but two jets run together on the runway while landing in broad daylight and good weather? This should be an interesting safety report.

The final Accident report. Quick reacting firefighters and the Nellis Hospital saved one pilot.

It seems clear that 85-1549 is a writw-off, but what about 85-1546?

Also do anyone know the current status of the pilot of 85-1549? With that kind of injury recovery will take time, but would be nice to know how he's doing?

Hi Niels,

Longe time no see !! I hope You are fine?!

It seems that 85-1546 will be flying again unlike 85-1549 ( as You write Yourself ).

Both pilots should be allright now.

Cheers,

Henrik.

Thanks Henrik - all good :)

Not too sure if the pilot of 85-1549 feels the same way judging by the injuries sustained - sounds like they will take time to recover from ;)

update:
Both aircraft were written off. 549 was sold as scrap and 546 was going to become a gate guard or a museum piece but nothing ever materialized. The seriously injured pilot completed his rehab and returned to flying status at the unit before the time limit of being sent back through training to requalify.
