Just spotted this one. This one happened last year. It was a Block 42 C model. Catastrophic engine failure (Pratt & Whitney) was the cause of the mishap. Capt. O'Malley is now a Raptor IP at Tyndall. Hate that it had to happen and that the plane was destroyed, but I'm glad he made it out.

Gila Bend... haha, the Goldwater range is pretty much all of South Western Arizona. The only good part of the trip from Phoenix to Yuma is that the highway is on the north end of the range, and you can see A-10s and F-16s regularly coming out of a run on the range.

There is actually no good part to the ride. Especially if you have to make it in a GOV with no a/c. But it is pretty cool to watch the jets do bombing runs and straffing missions. And to watch the jet you were just working on take off safely so you can start the trip back home.

The best part of Gila Bend was the flying saucer motel coffee shop before it burnt down, stopped there many times.
