If you weren’t claustrophobic prior to getting in the back seat of an F, you could sure develop the condition if you thought about it long enough. The rear cockpit was effectively both a neck brace & blindfold. Kind of a flying MRI.
Landing the F from the backseat was a prohibited maneuver. Those bulbous canopies allow the instructor to see enough to land from the back-seat like the F-100F or F-16. The C & E were set up for that but never built.
It’s more fun and less noisy to check out in an airplane that doesn’t have a 2-seat trainer (with annoying instructor) version anyway. I’m sure the F-22 guys/gals appreciate this perk.
