As Einstein pointed out, so much depends on your reference frame. From the perspective of an observer on board the tanker, the F-35 is hovering.
Then again, it could be a typo. "An F-35A Lightning II pilot hoovers while attached"
It's hoovering a lot of fuel.

My reference frames says (as suggested by ZanderTwerker) that the aircraft hover with the F-35 passing gas (that means fart in OzSpeke) whilst keeping the tanker airborne via long pole. PHEW! However Hoover is good butt.
When they go for Boom Refueling and the recepticle is behind the pilots head. What kind of indicators do they use on the HUD to align the boom to receptacle?

The HUD isn't used. The yellow stripe along the centerline is used for lateral alignment while the director lights (toward the nose of the tanker) is used for up/down/fore/aft. The boomer also gives verbal direction when required.

Not worth a separate thread but I reckon this aircraft has just taken off with wheels coming up (nosewheel first quickly).
