Hello all,

Just "bumped" into this beauty on the web - 9854/93-0516. Note the TER-9 on Sta. 7 and the 501 launchers for Sparrow missiles, as well as an ACMI pod along the shelter wall.

Also note this F-16D has a small "bump" under the inlet just as the early Block-15 aircraft from FY 80 had!!

And some F-16As and F-16Bs provided by Jeff "Storm" Stoermer. Note the difference in the stenciling on the nose of these aircraft!!.

Also they are standard F-16A/Bs - not up-graded to Block-40/42 and note also the unique EAF mod with the blade antanna under the inlet!!

Um, that's where they used to be...after refueling the aircraft, the crew chief used to grab onto the antenna and kick the nose tire to settle the nose. Later Blocks moved the lower UHF/IFF antenna between the ventrals.

Hi Joe,

I believe You are talking about the initial Block-1/5 and Block-10 aircraft that have this antenna under the inlet!!?? None of the Block-15 aircraft - expect the Egyptians - have this feature!! And for the EAF Block-15 Vipers it is mounted a bit further back than on the Block-1/5/10 series.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Yep - I too remember kicking the tires so the nose would settle, I remember when we were told to "shake" the aircraft during refueling ensuring all gas was loaded, how silly was that...problems with P&V valves if memory serves me correctly.

WE had no idea we might be adding undue stress to the Finger Braces with all that rocking and rolling that was going on....silly thing you remember some times.
More than likely have "been there and done that at some point", it sure keeps you young if done correctly

Smitty,
Don't remember a Wade, worked with Ken Witcher who is presently at Luke. Wish I could remember the guy from PV II, he was a riot, first name was Glenn, and eventually I'll remember his last name. Looking to see if I have any pictures that don't have our team in them.

Well I have a treat for all of you. I was on the original Peace Vector I program after I hired on with then General Dynamics in 1981. I arrived in country about 1 week before the airplanes arrived in Egypt back in March of 1982 and I stayed there until the summer of 1984 when I then transfered to Edwards AFB to start a 9yr career in Flight Test. I ran the Flight Control shop back then since I was a former B-shopper on a Fleagle. I have some pics of the first Blk 15M airplanes arriving at An Shas AB. It was one hell of an assignment, no running water, no heat, no air conditioning, and electricity ran most of the day if the 115Vac/60hz power plant didn't shut down...lol

Something I always thought was funny was that whenever we got a new aircraft the next day this little old guy who supposedly was a cousin of President Mubarek would come out with this little can of black paint and he would hand paint the arabic numbers you see on the airplane.

Anyway enjoy the pics...
