We know "Toro" Schmitz is the commander, but let's give a shout out to Viper Demo Team Superintendent "Master" Baden.

He always has a firm grip on the situation.

In 2021 Air Combat Command gave the green light for the demo teams to dispense flares during the A-10, F-16, and F-35A demonstrations. While this was experimented with at least one show site towards the end of 2020, it was written into the support manual for the 2021 airshow season. The A-10, F-16, and F-35A demonstrations are only approved to do this at show sites over water and at a safe altitude where the flare will harmlessly burn off before hitting the water.

Here's Maj. Schmitz and Venom performing over Corpus Christi Bay earlier this year. There are flares in the demo!
