At 15:10 the pilot is saying "the lightest helmet I have ever worn". That is a very significant statement after all the commotion about the helmet weight in the media the last few years.

MY view is 'the helmet weight' was related to the F-35 lightweight pilot ejection issues. However it was never mentioned the ejection seat was calibrated initially for a '4lb HMDS' and NOT the '4.5?' helmet it became with HMDS III (now 4.25lb?). This F-35 issue is all fixed now by various means to be 'the lightest'. I guess the reference is too OLD HELMETS with NVGs?

[My HMDS weights were a bit off - here are latest for HMDS III modified for lighter weight and earlier weight]: also the majority of pilots will comment on how well balanced the HMDS is with the visors (I guess now one less/interchangeable).
"...The prototype helmet tested last month weighs about 4.63 pounds, approximately 6 ounces lighter than the original Gen III helmet ..." 19 Apr 2016 viewtopic.php?f=62&t=16223&p=321233&hilit=weight+pounds#p321233

A well made video, looking forward to the next installment.

At 40.29 "uses a Rolls Royce Lift Fan that turns by 90 degrees". Canada might get it's two engines after all... :P

That is exactly my take. This guy is an experienced pilot and may have used older HMCS or perhaps only a standard helmet with NVG's.

I don’t know what the raw weights are for the substantial variety of helmets used around the world. However, I do know that how that weight is balanced on the helmet affects one’s perceptions of how much it weighs, as well as how much fatigue is induced (particularly in the neck) over the course of a given sortie.
