The F/A 18 can safely operate from Indian aircraft carriers with significant payload: Boeing
24 Jul 2018 Manu Pubby

"NEW DELHI: After conducting detailed capability studies and simulation analysis, US aerospace manufacturer Boeing has said that it is confident that the F/A 18 Super Hornet Block III can safely operate from Indian aircraft carriers, with a `significant’ weapons payload.

The Super Hornet is in contention for an Indian Navy requirement of 57 new fighter jets to operate from its carriers, with the French Rafale M expected to be its main competitor. The new jets are required to operate from ..

A senior Boeing executive told ET that talks are on with both the navy and the airforce (which has a requirement for 116 new fighter jets under Make in India) and that the Super Hornet would in the near future demonstrate its capability to take off from a ski jump....

...“We have answered queries from the Indian Navy and the simulation analysis is done. At some point we will also take off from a US Navy ski jump. We feel very comfortable that we will pass the requirements with a meaningful and significant payload,” Dan Gillian, Program Manager F/A-18 at Boeing says...."

Wonder if they would go for the EPE engines to improve the takeoff payloads.

Considering they've only been talking about the EPE for about 20 years now I'm beginning to wonder if they'll ever buy it. :bang:

As much as I loathe Hornets of all types, it's obvious the SH is the best option for India.

By a long shot...

LM really screwed up. I mean big time. With it's load carrying capability... LM should have convinced the USN to purchase F-35CG's with CFTs and EFTs so they could refuel the SuperDupers, thus saving airframe time on the SuperDupers.

ON that score of having NO circling tankers when the F-35Cs are airborne because they are a three wire machine returning with tons of gas with any potential tankers (manned by ZOMBIES) just ready on the deck for any pure happenstance need.

I meant flying off her carriers. I just can't see an F-35 in Indian service, much less an F-35C. Great picture though. Much like the GF/SU-57, she's not measuring up to the competition. You'd think that would motivate Ms. SU-57 to up her game, but in my experience they just want to b!tch about it...

The F-35 isn't currently an option. Of the available options, the SH is the best.

The last time my wife caught me looking at another girl like that, the other girl was not currently an option--doesn't keep you from looking. I would guess India would jump at the F-35 if given a chance!!!

That can change at anytime. In addition India really has no other viable option. If, she wants to counter Chinese J-20's and/or J-31's in the coming decade. So, I believe the real question is when will India acquire the F-35 not "if".

That said, like my case for Russia acquiring the J-31 from China. I am always open to plausible alternatives. Yet, I haven't really heard any.....

If India is hard over on co-production of the F-35... I predict the year 2070 when the US will be rolling out 7th Gen aircraft...

I doubt co-production is an option for India or at least in the short-term. Yet, it could be an option long-term. As a matter of fact Lockheed Martin has suggested. That co-production of the F-16 today. Could lead to co-production of the F-35 in the future.........

My guess is India will acquire a modest number of F-35's in the coming decade. Which, could be followed by Indian examples further down the road....

Why??? Because as I said she have no other real option....

"IMHO"

There's a lot of circular reasoning going on. It's not a matter of what India wants. It's a matter of whether we'll allow it. India will have to move a lot further away from Russia, IMHO, before the F-35 would be on the table.
