F-35 vs F/A-18 XT

I see what you did there

wasn't the Danish comparison taking into account the F/A-18E/D having a 6,000hr lifetime vs the F-35 having a 8,000hr (or 10,000hr) lifetime cost?

That's not a combat load-out. That's a pure form of hatred.

It doesn't have to: it's there just to shut up critics.
Or at least flip them the bird.

Good because they are not going to get many new builds

Cruise missile defense
It's not an issue "Will it", but "Can it"
Case in point, the F-18 Classic and Super.

Good reminder SpudmanWP.
It is often forgotten that with advanced technology the adversary needs to spend more resources to counter it. Any possible ability you add to your platforms means another variable that your adversary has to take into account and spend resources on.

So the question of which one an air arm should buy, should have a flow chart that goes like this:
Are you the US Navy?
Yes----> upgrade your super hornets to keep up with F-35s
No-----> buy F-35s, not super hornets
.have we noticed the trend that the SH is always trying to catch up to the F-35? And not the other way around? Anyone see F-35s trying to be more like SH?
Only insofar as it's a jack of all trades, master of none. 2 squadrons of F-35's and 2 of SH's will be interesting. I'd imagine they'll load up the SH's as AMRAAM trucks when flying alongside F-35's, the same way the USAF will do so with F-15's when flying with F-22's...

It depends on what question you are asking Boeing.
<Sarc ON ... sort of>
If the question is "What capabilities will an upgrade of the SH have?" then it is - additional stealth enhancements with coating, edge upgrades ... ,new avionics with enhanced EW, special stealthy conformal fuel tanks quadrupling the range, new IR/Optics of the upteenth generation, capable of reading the New Times inside the building in NY City from Melbourne Australia, while scanning the universe, looking for near earth asteroid threats, special laser/missile wing pods that are stealthy... etc. etc...
If the question is "How much will it cost?" then the answer is a regular SH with a centerline fuel tank and a GoPro camera velcroed onto it.....BUT but but !!!! it could be upgraded as above ... maybe ... perhaps .. if an order for design and development gets funded .... in the R&D budget ...
<Sarc OFF>
The F-18XT is whatever you want it to be ...
