Such a sad tragedy. RIP.

Better off in the mishaps section, as they're nothing modern about the Snowbirds aircraft.

Having said that, terrible tragedy for sure. I didn't know Canada had women flying in their military, will be interesting to hear what the accident investigation board finds..

"Published on Jul 6, 2011 BigfootMk120
"In this video one can clearly see the difference between an ejection that only uses power cartridges (as in the older ejection seats) [includes TUTOR] and a "new generation" seat that uses booster rockets as well. Notice how the seat separates from the dummy before impact with the rocket assisted ejection. The seat will typically stay attached to the pilot above 10 000ft to provide oxygen, and then automatically detach and fall away when the pilot descends below that altitude.

The seat in the Mirage F1 that inadvertently ejected Maj Arthur Piercy at AFB Rundu in the 80's (read "Vlamgat" by Gen Dick Lord), did not have rockets to assist the ejection, as was normal for that generation of ejection seats. Those ejection seats required a specific forward speed (typically 60 knots), as well as a minimum altitude for a safe ejection.

The Astra, Hawk Mk120 and Gripen aircraft all are equipped with rocket assisted Martin Baker Mk10 ejection seats, for which you don't need any forward speed or altitude ("Zero-Zero" ejection seats)."

Snowbird investigation focusing on possible bird strike before fatal crash
01 Jun 2020 Murray Brewster

"Canadian air force crash investigators are looking at a bird strike as the probable cause of the crash of a Snowbird demonstration jet in Kamloops, British Columbia last month. The accident killed Capt. Jenn Casey, the public affairs officer for the aerobatics team.

In a preliminary report issued Monday, investigators say video footage from the crash showed a bird was in very close proximity to the right engine intake during take-off. It's possible the bird struck the engine's intake, the report suggested...."

AAaaahhh the PERFECT BAND AID SEAT solution that has not been implemented. The people at the top are just criminals.

The current seat is old with old ejection parameters so the fatal pax ejection may have been outside old seat parameters.

The aircraft should have been retired long ago. Most are 55 -60 years old.... :|

You and Spazsinbad are both talking about issues you really know nothing about. And of which you have very little grasp of reality.

Pray tell us what you know then. Are you a pilot? Have you been a pilot? Have you flown old jet aircraft such as the Vampire with Martin-Baker Mk.3B whatever ejection seats with minimum height minimum airspeed limits so turnbacks (hopefully to a cross runway) were practiced regularly and low height whilst gaining airspeed takeoffs were the norm?
