Tragic crash at around 10AM this morning. Very close to where I live, as I'm in between Westover Air Force Base and Bradley (with Barnes ANG F-15's not far away either!)

From witness statements, it sounds as if engine failure was a contributing factor. At least 6 injured, all taken to Hartford Hospital, one of them by LifeStar. Let's let the NTSB do its thing though, don't want to jump to any conclusions...

What's almost as sad is Senator Blumenthal politicizing it. Stood up there and decried "old" planes giving rides to passengers, and calling for greater oversight. He's anti-aviation from the start, and understands nothing about what happened, why or how to prevent it in the future.
The NTSB will do that, not the Senator. Someone should tell him...

Mixelflick,
This senator is a simpleton, like most of our politicians. Back in July, I bought a B-29 ride on FIFI from the CAF, she came off the production line in early/mid 1944. Also had a ride in a B-25 back in 2007. Guess what, I knew what I was getting myself into. If it(they) crashed, well then I enjoyed doing what I love (flying/aviation). I could have cared less. And I had the time of my life. Hopefully next year I am going to buy a flight in a L-39 out in the Southwest.

I kind of wonder if you could mitigate some of those engine failure risks on these old planes by using a backup electric system. Probably not popular for stalwarts, but it wasn't like these planes were ever perfectly accident free even under the best conditions.
