A fire at an airbase in Belgium, which resulted in the destruction of an F-16 Fighting Falcon jet, might have been caused by a personnel member who had opened fire from a fighter, located at the same maintenance area, by mistake, local media reported.

As a result of this accidental firing, the F-16 fighter, filled with kerosene, had exploded, the RTL Info broadcaster reported. “We can assume that there has been a human error or a technical fault. In any case, we have not been informed about an intentional act,” Boris Morenville, the head of the SLPF Defense trade union said, as quoted by the broadcaster.

Anyone got a better source? Social media chatter says it's real, but the only big place running the story outside Belgium appears to be Sputnik, and they are dishonest to say the least.

News from the Syria Rhino air-to-air kill has finally reached the European fighter force and they are now itching for their chance at fame. First a accidental AMRAAM shot and now a gun kill. :D

Better sources:

https://www.aviation24.be/military-airc ... ge-second/

On 12 October, Aviation24.be received more information on the incident: a technician was working on an F-16 when he accidentally activated the six-barrels 20mm Vulcan M61A-1 cannon of that F-16. The cannon was loaded and some bullets hit another F-16AM (FA-128). That aircraft had just been refuelled and was – together with another F-16 – being prepared for a (training) mission. Due to the bullets, the F-16AM exploded and damaged the other F-16.
