Coal Rollers
I was watching a video on YouTube, about how protesters in Colorado were being "Coal-Rolled" by pickup trucks and such, tuned to belch large clouds of black smoke. Beyond the obvious stupidity of doing that, it came to me, that many of my favo(u)rite planes of years past, belched large clouds of black smoke, from improper fuel/ air mixtures stemming from older combustor designs. This thread is a love letter to them...

I watched a B-52 MITO at Mather when I was a cadet at ROTC summer camp.
I was impressed. Noise, smoke, seemingly endless string of massive wings-flailing aircraft....what is there not to like at age 18. I said to myself, "That's what I want to be.....a B-52 pilot."
Fortunately, I later came to my senses.
(Love the Diesel-8)

Nice outlaw! Yeah, I think my earliest experiences with smoky jet planes, was actually the Douglas DC-9. The early ones made a real racket and smoked like crazy; but I think that Diesel-8 had them beat!
