Russia is in the process of building its first new cosmodrome—or rocket launch site—since the fall of the USSR. And it's a mess. For the past two decades, Russia's used the Baikonur Cosmodrome, in current-day Kazakhstan, which dates back to the very earliest days of Russian space flight. But not only is that launch site aging, it's also a political bee in Russia's bonnet.

The project has been severely behind schedule for a number of reasons, including the incredible cold winter of eastern Siberia, material supply problems resulting from the site's remote location, and workforce issues. Like NASA, 80 % of the space program is secret and they claim they are making a huge progress into the future of the space era.

Virgin Galactic is stopped after the deadly accident and nothing new is coming out from Europe.

So Russian are not so behind...
