Has there ever been a sidewinder variant that can be launched by ejection?

Don't know about the 9-X but AFAIK earlier models had to be in the airstream to keep the rollerons on the tailfins spinning to keep the missile stable during launch and in flight.

Look up the Chaparral ADS (MIM-72) on Wikipedia. Four heaters on a tracked vehicle launched from a dead stop. Missiles had to be modified by replacing two of the four rollerons with fixed fins.
