A friend of mine was traveling out west in Arizona and came across this Marine F-18D on a trailer. Markings are for VMFAT-101 (Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101 (VMFAT-101) is a United States Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet training squadron. The squadron is based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California).

I'll shed no tears for any F-18 being retired.

But it likely served its nation well, and it's time for it to go. Easier to watch them retired to the desert largely intact though, vs. seeing them chopped up like this. I guess if you're an F-18 fan it hurts, but take heart - they're going to be building new ones for some time to come.

Will probably become a target on a range somewhere.
