It's possible things have changed since I retired but...the way it used to be is that you had to have 20/20 to get into pilot training. Waivers were rarely granted (always an exception but not many). Once the money was invested in your training, THEN waivers or PRK were possible. Also note that in the early days PRK had to be done by an approved (i.e. by flight medicine) miltary facility. That may have been relaxed since.

Bottom line. Less than 20/20 will likely disqualify you, and most importantly DO NOT GET ANY EYE SURGERY BEFORE JOINING. At least check with somebody first, and not a recruiter (If the answer isn't what you want to hear he's likely to fudge it to get you signed up and then you find out you're screwed)
