Best: would have been Aviano and Taegu back during the late 80's when they were sleepy hollows.
Clark AB prior to the whole communist uprising and volcano were good times as well. Anyone remember the Nipa Hut!
Worst: PSAB and Kwangju Korea. Got stuck in Kwangju and was confined to base because of rioting outside

We would get off the plane and the first thing you got handed was a cold beer. If it was your first time there you had to go watch the VD movie. When we stayed down town Staffs and above got there own rooms in the hotels. And then there was the women :D  :ban: sorry having flash backs here. By the 27th day you would be ready to leave there but when we got back to Kadena we would be counting the days till we went back to the PI.

Loader2088 wrote:Best - I haven't seen any mention of Cold Lake, Alberta where Maple Flag is held. I really enjoyed both my TDY's there, other than the billeting, which sucked being in big shared bath trailers with lousy two man rooms. Otherwise, great chow hall, great rec center, nice people and a beautiful summer climate with an awesome lake nearby. Nearby is horseback riding and bike trails. I'd love to have a summer place there.

I was there in the winter of 80 but all of 421st amu ab thru staff were
8 to a room good chow friendly townies were not supposed
to bring booze though

Best: Sardina Italy - 75.00 dollars a day, seriously maybe the best secret in the world for beautiful women.
Worst: Konya, Turkey - our food on base had mold on it, everything else gave you Turkey trots...

Best: I've had plenty. Curacao, Panama, Nellis, Ramstein, Rota, South Africa, Denmark, Mildenhall, Tampa, and Miami. The casino I stayed at in P.C., Panama was possibly the best hotel room I've ever had in my life!

Worst: I've had plenty. lol. So far, anywhere in Iraq and Afghanistan has been a tie for @$$hole of the world, just barely eclipsing D'Jibouti, which is also horrible. Al Udeid sucks, but it is better than it used to be. Manas (aka, MAN @$$) eats $h!t. Both Pakistan and India are horrible. Actually, anywhere that you have to play by AFCENT's rules sucks.

Simply said, if there isn't booze, girls in bikinis, girls in your hotel room, or any combination thereof, it's going to be a lousy TDY.

I remember the Nipa Hut too!! I was at Clark in the late 80's before all that crap started and before Pinatubo buried Angeles City. Great TDYs there back then!

Worst TDY: Fort Polk, LA - Had to wear full gear everywhere! Was hot and humid. Had way too many MREs. Instead of ordering pizza the unit ordered 500 lbs of mud bugs, yuck!!!

Best TDY: Fort Eustis, VA - Lived in a nice hotel for 3 1/2 months. Lots of history and sights to see.

I've never liked being on any base called "Fort" or "Camp". I'm glad I didn't join the Army or Marines.

If, for some reason, I had to go back in; AF would be my pick. Fixing wires in a nice heated hanger across the street from a Burger King sounds a lot nicer than doing it in a forest clearing in the snow.

Howard AFB Panama was a cheap Hawaii trip, great food, cheap liquor and showtime! Seco rum, Atlas beer and Mongolian BBQ would bring me back time after time... :thumb:
