A Greek F-16C Block 52 cought fire a few days ago at Souda airport (115 Combat Wing, 343 sqn). The mishap was during take off, pilot was not injured but taken to military hospital anyway, but the airframe suffered heavy damage and is probably a write-off.

With this mishap, HAF is left with 54 Block 52s out of initial 60.

I could not find source in English, so story below in greek only (Extract in red is HAF's press release):

This can't be right, as the Hellenic AF bought a total of 90 Block 52/52+'s!?
Best regards

Initial order was for 50 examples, plus an option for ten more which was exercised. Later order in 2005 by then DefMin Spiliotopoulos was another thirty (for a grand total of 90) which however are known as block 52M.

Technically yes, but here we typically refer to them separately for various reasons.

On a sidenote, these later 30 F-16 52Ms were ordered in 2005 and were literally the last pieces of military hardware of any kind that Greece has ordered brand new and paid for. For 11 years since, and probably for many more years to come, everything else that was received was either second hand hardware and various consumables / spare parts. No procurement whatsoever for 11 years, yet many people still whine about military expenditure.
