BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -The pilot of an F-16 fighter jet has been rescued following a mid-air collision with a Cessna C-150 11 miles north of Charleston, according to Berkeley County Rescue Squad officials.

County officials say the crash happened near Old Highway 52 at Lewisfield Plantation in Moncks Corner at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Berkeley County Rescue Squad Chief Bill Salisbury said witnesses reported the F-16 hit the Cessna "broadside."

Salisbury said the F-16 pilot ejected safely and is okay.

Meanwhile, there is no official word on how many people were on the second plane. The Berkeley County Rescue Squad says the fuselage of the Cessna has been located and debris is scattered across a rice field. They say rescue swimmers and the Coast Guard are searching for additional survivors...

I'm fairly sure there won't be any additional survivors :(

I took pictures of an F-16 #085 at 10:42 am at Myrtle Beach SC as it did two practice touch and goes and then headed south towards Charleston. Could this be the jet? Do I need to report these pictures to anyone or can I publish them? I still hope this is not the right jet.

Do you have the full tail number? Should be in form XX-XXXX. Also, did the tailflash have "SW" on it?

I don't believe there would be anything barring you from publishing the photos (provided you took them from an location you were authorized to be in...) It may be relevant to the NTSB/Air Force Accident Investigation board if it is indeed the incident aircraft.

That tail is assigned to the same unit as the accident aircraft (20th FW). I would wait and see if the tail number matches, they usually report it on the news page of this site promptly.

Photos of the wreckage are available here: http://www.postandcourier.com/apps/pbcs ... &Ref=PH#11

The tail is too charred to read the tail number, but it looks like it was carrying an AMRAAM (probably inert) when it crashed.

Serial number locations are normally on the tail, but can be found on the nose, canopy, nose gear area etc, but very rarely under the wing of an F-16. Many pylons have serial numbers however and that is likely what you are seeing.

Has the tail number been released?

Thought you photographed from the crash. No tail number yet. I'm not in a rush. If it is obtained officially, it will be a little while, but we often find out a bit early.

Pretty sure you have durahawk and hondagl1800 confused. They were having a discussion and durahawk mentioned an AMRAAM in reference to the link he posted with pictures. Hondagl1800 was confirming that the jet he had photo's of, which he did not post here, did indeed have one under the left wing. Hope that helps

It seems to be that it was 96-0085 that crashed.

Here the jet can be seen in better times:

That photo has been used in many news articles. It's remarkable to me as there is no damage around that exhaust cone.

Everybody is talking about a AMRAAM but I think it's a HARM missile under the left wing.
