Probably more of a speculation (for now) until more data and technical specs are known, but how about the Viper vs. Iran's new fighter, the Saegheh?

Its nothing more then an upgraded F-5...I think its more geared for propoganda, not a match for real fighter aircraft like the F-16.

I watched the video of the Saegheh on youtube, was un-impressed.

I believe the Saegheh is designed as a ground attack aircraft -- a under-armored version of the Su-25, if you will. It would be no match for the viper in A-A due to its shortcomings in the BVR area.

They featured the Saegheh in their big military parade today (September 22). It's not the F-16 they're comparing it to, but the F/A-18. It reminds me of those F-5's Maverick tangled with in "Top Gun." I'm sure most western fighter pilots would give a lot to run into one in an air-to-air fight. :)

Really small nose probably means really small radar = Viper - "Fox 3!" before the Saegheh even has a lock

In close and turning I'd imagine it's like an F-5 which is very familiar to anyone whose gone through TOPGUN or Weapons School :) .
No plane on Sunday, maybe be one come Monday...

Speculation on my part as I don't know much of anything about the Saegheh. I wouldn't discount it yet, but I wouldn't want to be in it against any 4th Gen aircraft much less 5th Gen.

You mean the Saegheh's flight characteristics will be hardly any different to that of an F-5E Tiger II?

Come on, every TOPGUN / USAF-FWS graduate faced it in their DACT training sessions.

Found this 2015 book - author seems to have been advisor to the Iranian Aircraft Industries on upgrade programs - doesn't paint a pretty picture.

Project Saeghe-80 (Thunderbolt-80) at the time of writing this book consisted of 6 converted F-5E and 1 F-5F (Saeghe II) - initially they changed the nose, air intakes and tails under crude conditions but had to revert the nose and intakes back after adverse handling /manoeuvrability issues - so literally F-5E/F with twin tails and a few new NAVAIDS.

In dogfights , F5 vs another energy fighter(F16) after half radius of the one level turn it will become stuck in that 7 G?? turn not been capable to raise the nose if the other plane pull up to evades the tracking gun solution of F5.That's the way F16 it was better in gun fight. Guess the two rudders of theHESA Saeqeh will have the same problem because is below 1:1T/W ratio.
