$21.00 an hour (to start) isn't too shabby for the same job I was almost on food stamps with while active duty. Add to that a nice feature called "double dipping" while deployed...I just paid off a vehicle I bought 9 months ago for doing a 55 day deployment to Iraq, and still have a nice savings built up. Then throw in the amount of time off you can have. Build up comp time, earn annual and sick time every pay day. I'm taking three days of annual leave next week that will give me 12 days off paid over the holidays. But wait, there's more! Go TDY as a technician and earn big per deim, usually stay one man to a room, and get a rental car. I'm a WG-10 step 2 Crew Chief in 122FW Indiana ANG and doing pretty well.

As far as Burlington, VT, I can't say enough good things about the place. I went there for a week with my guys to help launch out the VT and FW jets to Iraq and the base really took care of us. The area is beautiful with...well...green mountains all around, and the city is very nice. The people I worked with there and Iraq were first class.

$25/hr. is entry level pay for an A&P. So with say 10 yrs. of experience you should see around $30-40/hr. Tell me how $21/hr is good when your peers rake in $40/hr ?

BTW im a A&P crewing 16's for $51.50/hr... so $21 is a slap in the face

Cost of living is a bit different in your area compared to the states though :)

No kidding! There's nobody on my base (enlisted techinicians) who makes anywhere near that kind of money. Of course we're not being paid for the Euro exchange rate which is almost double the dollar right now. Come back to the States and see if you can get a technician job or an A&P job for that matter paying that well.

The only civilian mechanics I've ever heard of making $51.00 an hour were maintaining the Predators at Balad AB, Iraq.

I'd also like to see an entry level A&P (in the states) make anywhere near $25.00. The airline I worked for you had to have about 10-15 years on the job before you'd come close to that. My entry level A&P job was paying $15.00, so the $22.00 I'm making now as an ANG technician with 2 years on the job full time is quite a bit better.

That is true... but when you are paid in euro's it's not all that bad.

Which I am.

Who said anything about being entry level? How many years have you been turning a wrench? Your a sucker if you worked for $15/hr while holding an A&P...even if you only had it 2 hours. Do a little searchee poo, the average is $25-$45.

Anyways... The day I work as a WG is the day they pay the pilots as WG. Because thats how it works in the rest of the world.

Both airlines I worked for were paying me a little short of Capt. pay ...most of the time my check was bigger because I banked the overtime.

So here are the figures for my last 2 U.S. jobs
Geo Air: Sal. 48k Full Bene+PerDiem+Overtime. About 65K/yr
Kalitta Air: Sal $28/hr Full Bene+Overtime while Based, $239/day if flying (21on/10off) 30days paid.

DO NOT APPLY IF YOU CANNOT MATCH THESE ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS. BY DOING SO YOU ARE WASTING THE EMPLOYER'S TIME AND YOUR OWN TIME. FOR INSTANCE, IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE
AND WORK IN A SPECIFIC COUNTRY **DO NOT APPLY - YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED**

Please answer the following questions.

must have FAA A&P on either Learjet 60 or BBJ
Yes No
JAR 66 B1 on Learjet 60 or BBJ
Yes No
JAR 66 B2 on Learjet 60 or BBJ
Yes No

So, if you don't have experience on these airframes you're not going to get this great paying job. Not a bad gig if you can get in.

As far as AF guys who don't have an A&P, a WG job still isn't too bad. The regional airline I worked for didn't care about military experience. They looked at my A&P without civilian experience as an entry level technician. It was the only gig available in my area so there wasn't much bargaining I could do.

Glad you're doing so well in the industry.

A common mistake made by guys new to the commercial sector is to only apply with regional carriers. I would advise against this as EVERY kid who gets his A&P goes this route. Find a large operator (most are hiring)...Move and get a small apartment and work your butt off to get that type rating. Once you have it.... your set. I went to Kalitta with NO 747 experience and after 6 months I was running engines!

Today, in general industry $20 per hours is not bad, here in South Texas the range today is generally $15 to $20. Before 9-11 it was about $5 to $8 higher and people had much better benefits.

If you want to go international, these jobs are hard to get and require working visa's for the countries involved. If you do not have an unrestricted visa do not bother to apply. In my case I can, and have, worked visa free in the USA, Europe or Japan, this is an anomaly.

The WG-10 position seems reasonably paid for the industry and the experience required. They should have no problem getting a qualified pool of applicants.
