The answer is...it depends.
If you have a lot of skeletons in the closet it will take longer.

About 15 years ago my son went to work at General Dynamics and eventually needed a secret clearance as he was working on satellite imaging radars. He said it took about a month. They even had a retired naval officer interview us and lots of our neighbors and his school friends before it was all over. Really interesting experience.
