Iam still here in Tampa and am collecting storys and images from MacDill from all eras to document the bases history. Please pass on my request to anyone who was at MacDill, I would like to go back as far as WW2. Please contact me if you have storys and or images from MacDill.
I arrived at MacDill from Tech school in late 1974, worked F-4Es when we were First fighter, then the 56th. I was a weapons loader on F-4s and when the F-16s arrived, I went to yellow section. I volunteered to go help set up the F-16 program at Kunsan in 1981, returned to MacDill in 82, back to yellow (63rd) for a short time then to CAMT as an Armament Systems Instructor. Around 1083 or 84 I moved over to FTD at MacDill as an instructor there. I taught there till I was forced to go to Selfridge ANGB in 1990 to help set up the FTD there, retired in 90Have lost track of everyone, sure had some great times at macDill.

I was in Corrosion Control there 84-88 and one little bit of trivia I never see was the glossy clear teardrop around the gun port that was implemented there. As far as I know that was something the DCM came up with and was unique to the 56ths F-16s at MacDill.

I am John Sanford and I was stationed at MC from 86 to 89 with the 62nd AMU as a crew chief. I loved my time there and miss the F-16. It makes me a little sad seeing my baby near the end of her life cycle so the F-35 better uphold the standard that the falcon has created and keep our Air Force and country strong
