This is there answer:

The F-35 hasn't completed anything significant and won't do so until it completes initial operational test and evaluation, a joint program (US, UK, Netherlands and Australia) to determine if the JSF satisfies operational requirements.

So, apparently the delivery of Block 3F, the End of SDD, and three services declaring IOC means NOTHING.

That and in a nod to "it takes a village", individual users cannot be trusted to determine if it meets their needs as the whole JPO has to agree.

Any bets as to their excuse after IOT&E is done?

  • Look how long it took.
  • Look how many F-16s / F-18s / Rafales / EFs could have been purchased with the development dollars alone.
  • It still can't do ... < insert X > ...
  • It carries a HUGE amount of gas, but can only go HOW far?
  • Trump likes it... therefore is MUST suck!
  • It lost to an F-16 (!) in a dogfight! (might as well recycle the old sh*t)
  • EOTS is obsolete... just look at what pod XYZ can do!
  • It still only carries 181 rounds! And it's gun is a popgun compared to the A-10's gun!

:bang:

Take your pick.
Take an F-16, stir in a little A-7, bake, then sprinkle on a generous helping of F-117. What do you get? An F-35.

....so in less than 1yr. Israel has modified software and hardware in their 9 F-35I, integrated their Israeli weapons, trained their pilots and maintenance/ supply/ support systems and declared them operational.
...doesn't seem to be many "problems" that are to be discovered by the US IOT&E efforts to begin next year!

Congrats to the Israelis!

The Israeli's seem very impressed by it. And they're buying more, which is a great sign.

I suppose they'll use it in combat first, may already have. Can't wait for the first air to air engagements...
