No, the X-32 might have but the Vertical Thrust is of a completely different nature on the F-35. You are not simply moving the position of the nozzels.

"So a real world example of VIFF, vectoring in forward flight?"

Yes.

"Wonder if the F-35B could ever develop similar tactics although it stops pretty well as it is with high AoA."

Never, ever. It doesnt need thrust vectoring apart from what it does for approach/TO/landing.

I didnt mean to open up a TVC discussion in an F-35 air show thread. Point I really wanted to make was in reference to Gums' comment about ACMI/TACTS debrief. Said debrief for this one was "memorable."

That article is just chocked full of urban myth wrt viff. Aerodynamically, the Harrier is a mediocre performer except in a very small and specific set of circumstances. The only pilots I know who became proficient with viff did so after attaining some level of skill/proficiency in bfm. If one sucked at bfm, viff only made it worse.

The trick was getting enough bfm exposure to develop said proficiency, and that exposure rarely existed even back in the days when we were flying 30hr/mo every month in stateside training. Why? Because our primary mission was A-G not A-A. I and handful of others were unique in the amount of bfm we were allowed to do and some follow-on assignments furthered that exposure.

QS, to what extend did you get to meet / interact with any of the Brit aviators who saw real A-A down in the Falklands?
Take an F-16, stir in A-7, dollop of F-117, gob of F-22, dash of F/A-18, sprinkle with AV-8B, stir well + bake. Whaddya get? F-35.

Many times. There has been a robust pilot exchange in place for decades. Was briefed and Q&A’d extensively by/with Argentines as well.

In fact, one UK pilot who was held captive after being downed by anti-aircraft defenses around Port Stanley had, at one time, been on exchange w the USMC.

Here are some personal videos I made of the F-35s demonstration at the 2018 Fort Worth Alliance airport Airshow. Filmed for a Galaxy S9, so quality isn't exactly professional grade. The section with the P-51 flying with the F-35 was a real treat. Enjoy

It would be really cool to have the demo go at the same time an F-22 does and have them do the same maneuver one after the other.
