It is Friday evening before a weekend where Hurricane Irma will dominate the news. It is a great time to announce the approval of two "controversial" potential deals for F-16V's to Bahrain.

The first is a new buy of 19 F-16V for $2.8 billion. The second is an upgrade deal of 20 F-16C block 40s to F-16V's for $1.1 billion. I don't know whether Bahrain will pick between the new buy or the upgrade or is considering doing both at the same time.

The key equipment includes the Northrop Grumman APG-83 AESA radar and the Harris AIDEWS EW system. The engine is the same as the F-16C block 50 and not the upgraded engine used by the UAE F-16E.
