Hi, don't THINK I saw this elsewhere.

Popular Mechanics has a short blurb about a proposed upgrade that would 6000 flying hours to some F-16s.
(Their source is WarisBoring)

They concluded that that would allow them to fly until 2048. At least they wondered if it would really be very effective by then,

Depends on what you base the airframe flight time on?

Original design was intended for 4000hrs, extended through FalconStar/UP to 8000hrs, and testing was recently completed(?) that indicates 12000hrs is no problem.

I think production design from the off was 8000 hrs for the F-16 - (as John W)

The QF-16 might be in US service that long but the only roadmap I have seen was to phase them out near 2025 for USAF - other countries will have them a long time no doubt.

If you take ie Greece, their latest Vipers were delivered around 2009/10 - given estimated 35 year lifespan of the fighters that brins you fairly close to 2048 ;)

https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity ... e&_cview=0

The F-16 USAF SLEP intends to extend the aircrafts current structural service life from 8,000 equivalent flight hours (EFH) up to 13,856 EFH by modifying and/or repairing life limiting, fractural critical, and safety of flight critical structure. This effort seeks to award a contract to a vendor who can manufacture and/or procure, assemble, and deliver up to the estimated maximum quantity of 841 F-16 Block 40-52, C/D-Model SLEP modification kits necessary to extend the structural service life of these aircraft, in accordance with Government standards and specifications defined in the Technical Data Package (TDP).

841 F-16s extended to 13,856 flying hours...

Yeah I agree. It also depends what the rival will be.
