Any longtime Viper drivers remember Joe Bill Dryden? CODE ONE MAGAZINE web site just posted his first article. Even though it's thirty years old, the writing it still holds up pretty good. There is a link to Joe Bill's Semper Viper book in pdf form in one of the photo captions.

Joe Bill died in 1993 in an F-16 crash during a GD test flight. This is a nice tribute to his contributions to the F-16 community.

I worked directly with Joe BIll for several years on F-16 FSD and F-16XL flight test programs. He flew many test missions with me in the ground station monitoring his test runs. Prior to those programs he was a test pilot for the YF-17 during the Light Weight Fighter competitive fly-off with the YF-16 in 1974. He made a few flights in the YF-16 and so impressed the leadership he was assigned to the F-16 FSD program. Joe Bill was a good development test pilot, but was even better at operational test. Best of all he was very easy to work with, not a trace of arrogance, eager to learn, and friendly to everyone. I feel fortunate to have known him.

My dad (former PAF Viper pilot, ejected in 1987) spoke very highly of him as he used to read his articles on the Viper. Below is a link of him flying..for those interested.
