Female power on display during Ferguson Fire
Montanan,19, plays instrumental role in fighting fire from way above

Ann Hansen, Female copilot of a Sikorsky CH-54A Sky-crane firefighter helicopter

Ann Hansen is young, but she isn’t letting that stop her from living her dream, even if it is a dream fraught with danger. Hansen, 19, was in Mariposa over the last few weeks battling the Ferguson Fire — just not as a firefighter on the ground. She is a copilot of a Sikorsky CH-54A Sky-crane helicopter. Along with her captain, Gregg Deacon, she has been flying into dangerous areas near the fire and dropping water and retardant to douse the flames. “At most times out here, people ask if I’m with my dad or grandpa,” said Hansen in an interview while stationed at the Mariposa Yosemite Airport. “I look young for my age, like I’m still in high school.” Indeed, Hansen looks like she could still be in high school. But don’t let the youthful face fool you. She’s up to the task. “I’ve been very impressed with her, especially considering her minimal amount of experience,” said Deacon, the pilot. “It’s a complex aircraft and our mission is complex. She’s monitoring a lot of instruments and dealing with most of the radio calls. She’s doing a lot of multitasking. And we go into some difficult types of places.” Hansen is from Philipsburg, Mont. It was there that she developed an interest in flying. Her father worked as a ranch manager. Every year, Hansen would be inspired by watching crop dusters fly overhead. Adding to her interest in flying was the fact that her father also wanted to be a helicopter pilot. Only he never took the opportunity. “I always had that in my head growing up,” she says of wanting to fly a helicopter. Ten days after she graduated high school, she started in flight school at Rocky Mountain Rotors, in Belgrade, Mont. Shortly thereafter, she transferred to Jerry Trimble Helicopters flight school in Oregon. “I never had any previous aviation experience,” Hansen said. “It was overwhelming.” She stuck with it, and in a short period of time, she became certified to become a helicopter co-pilot. “My parents are thrilled with it,” Hansen said, acknowledging that in a way, she is fulfilling her father’s dream of flying. She now works for Helicopter Transport Services and has the opportunity to work on fires as well as other special projects. “It just depends where they need me to go,” said Hansen. “The challenge is fun.” She admits there is danger in what she does. Engines could fail on the copter, or worse. “Everything we do has a little risk,” Hansen said. “(But) it’s fun, for one, and you’re helping with something.” Hansen’s end goal is to become a “PIC,” or a pilot in charge. Essentially, it’s the rank of captain. “There is still a lot to explore,” she said. There may be plenty to explore, but for someone who is only 19, Ann Hansen has already experienced quite a bit.

Ann Hansen, a helicopter copilot, is shown inside a Sikorsky used to battle flames in Mariposa County. The irony is that Hansen is afraid of heights. “I’m terrified of heights,” Hansen said. “It’s way different when you’re in an aircraft. You focus on what you’re doing.” Photos by Matt Johnson

UAE air force fighter pilot Captain Fatima Al Mansouri dreams of being the first Arab astronaut

https://zahratalkhaleej.ae/article/558090/
http://www.anazahra.com/?p=558127
http://www.latifamagazine.net/News_View.aspx?News=459
Not only the love of the first place but sought by the will and determination of steel, flying to her dream of education and perseverance and jump on any barrier faced by an ambitious girl, Captain pilot Fatima Mansouri, one of the first Emirati girls who entered the military wire, and seeks to represent the State in the diplomatic corps , Not far from Fatima, who does not believe impossible. For its first steps in the aviation world, namely its accession to the Khalifa Air College, Fatima Al Mansouri «says she has set her eyes on to the prestigious college, from the door of a sense of belonging to the homeland and the necessity of sacrifice and giving for him», saying «that placed on military responsibility, whether responsibility Whether a man or a woman, is definitely different from the responsibility of a civilian. " "I have learned that success, excellence and excellence are not a coincidence but a result of work, effort and perseverance, and patience and determination and encouragement of my leaders and colleagues helped me overcome the difficulties and the various obstacles," she said. As for the keys to her success in her flying career, Captain Fatimah explains: "Our wise leadership always seeks first place and always makes us seek it, because the number one is in our blood." "I began my relationship with the tournament during my studies at the Air College, and through my participation I had many opportunities, including flying with the teams participating in the reviews. I also experienced the flight of the Ilyushin 76 , It is intended to train astronauts to fly, and exercise them on conditions of zero gravity. Fatima's beginnings go back to childhood. "From an early age, I dreamed of joining military life. I received great moral support from Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union, the Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, Top Motherhood and childhood »(or UAE), also supported me by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, deputy Supreme commander of the armed forces, in particular, and Ugena to the right path, where I joined and I am in the 13 years old school« Khawla girl Azzur military », and since that stage and my life full of perseverance And achievements, but at the same time is not without challenges and difficulties, and always say that the key to success challenges ». "I always look at the sky, I see myself as an astronaut, and one day I will go there. The UAE has entered space through the completion of the Emirates Space Agency, and through it I will achieve my dream. I believe that great achievements begin with a dream, and I dream of being the first Arab astronaut. " As for her family's position on joining the military life, Al-Mansouri reveals that she was initially opposed, but an opposition that stems from her fear of experiencing an experience that requires great will, physical and intellectual strength. "I have successfully passed this period, Exist every day, we have to overcome them with the positive energy we face. " "We, the sons and daughters of the UAE, practice the charitable work instilled in us by our late father, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and I am a volunteer with the Takatof Association," she said. I have been appointed Environment Ambassador to the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi to represent the UAE that attaches the utmost importance to the environment. It is my duty to be aware of the environmental challenges facing the environment. Risks, and the importance of sustainable development , And the right to live on a clean planet ». Despite her many preoccupations and responsibilities, Mansouri remains eager to practice her hobbies. "My hobbies and adventures have a share of my time and time, like life. My hobbies are painting, photography, reading, rowing, farming, jumping off the plane, being a pilot I love to travel to discover the world, to travel to cities I have not explored, such as the North Pole and the snowy cities, to see the magnificent cosmic phenomena, and the spirit of adventure is the most important thing for me to travel, where I discover myself and face my fears. "Al Mansouri proudly says that her inspiration is her mother, who is always on her side, the school she graduated from. "I learned the principles and ethics from her and treated people well. My mother was always preparing to pursue my dreams and aspirations without compromising my identity. Of which". "I love her, I love nature and I spend my time since I was young in our farm in Liwa to pick dates, fruits and vegetables, I still visit her," said pilot Fatima Al Mansouri. Every period because it is the beginning of childhood, and sometimes I visit it to get intellectual and psychological peace, or to make some crucial decisions in my life .. There is a brilliant and renewed ».

Unknown Female F-16 viper pilot
Anyone know more ,please?

Louisville Pilot On Third Gulf Tour
http://www.wave3.com/story/1199858/louisville-pilot-on-third-gulf-tour/
(LOUISVILLE, March 25th, 2003, 11:55 a.m.) -- A Louisvillian who received the distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts in the first Persian Gulf war is right in the middle of conflict again. Lt. Colonel Rob Givens, a fighter pilot out of Cannons Air Force Base, is back for his third tour of duty. WAVE 3's Connie Leonard recently sat down with his proud parents.Lt. Colonel Rob Givens keeps in touch with his family via email as frequently as possible. Most times, he keeps it light. His father, Roy, recently shared an excerpt with us. "I am tired but OK -- I am finally losing some weight." A moment of humor in the face of danger. Roy Givens would expect nothing less from his son, Rob, a who is now serving with the 524th fighter squadron. Rob tries to stay strong for his parents, as well as his wife Carla, and their two boys -- 6-year-old Morgan and 4-year-old Mitchell. You may remember Rob as the talented pilot with the Air Force Thunderbirds. In fact, he once showed our own Jackie Hays his skill with the F-16. Now he's back in the cockpit for his country. Again. TV footage shows Robs' squadron taking out targets in Iraq almost daily. They're pictures his mom Anna could sometimes do without. "Every time something like this happens I think, oh no, not again -- let someone else go." This isn't the first time Rob has dropped bombs in Iraq. He was among the first in battle in the Persian Gulf war, and he went back for a tour of duty several months later. This time he's second in command, providing air support for the ground forces. But his previous war experience doesn't bring much comfort to his family. I have a lot of fears," Anna says. "I have trouble sleeping at night. I just think about him all the time." They tell themselves it's a life Rob loves. He's an outstanding officer born to fly. But he's always a son first.Roy says the family tries "to just take it one day at a time -- that's all we can do. One day at a time."The Givens have a farm where they usually stay at...but, they can't receive rob's e-mail there so...they are staying in town. They just returned from a visit to Clovis, New Mexico to see their daughter-in-law and their grandchildren. They say when this conflict is over Rob is hoping to become a squadron commander and eventually move his family back to Louisville.

An incredible weekend at the Women in Aviation International Australian Chapter National Conference. It’s not everyday you get to meet one of the two first Australian female fighter pilots #goals! Super thankful to be this years recipient of the Australian Chapter Scholarship! What a way to start the long weekend #WAI #NationalConference #FemalePilot #FighterPilot #RAAF #girlboss #Aviation #Flying #Award @wai_australia

https://www.facebook.com/downunderaviaitonnews/photos/a.1194240620587987/1381680408510673/
At the recent Townsville Open Day some may not have been aware of a very interesting aspect of the event. DUAN learned that the first RAAF fast jet female pilot in training was in attendance with the 76 SQN display. Having the first female fast jet pilot in the RAAF training system is a big milestone for the RAAF and also a great step forward for women in the Air Force regarding diversity in the fast jet cockpit. There has not yet been an official female fast jet pilot in the RAAF but there has been a number of females onboard F-111s as B/Ns in the past. RAAF female aircrew do routinely fly the jet powered C-17 Globemaster and the C-130J Hercules transports. The trainee fast jet pilot on the Open Day spent her time explaining the 76 SQN Bae 127 Hawk lead in fighter trainer jet to the general public. The 76 SQN pilot graciously on the day took a few moments out of handling the long general public queue to let DUAN take some photos of her .
