Rather sexist of you to assume that it was a "boy" pilot. I have it on good authority that there are women in naval aviation now.
Actually looks sort of like the pattern we flew learning to fly on instruments. (That was a while ago for me..I could be mistaken).

My take is the lack of discipline in the use of government resources demonstrated so publicly may inspire others in uniform to exercise their "creative" talents. So they will be made an example of. And while some may not be bothered by it, others definitely are.
