I've got the afterburner sheet AD 38-008 (aggressor vipers) i will be making the 57th ATGs AF870307 bird in the "brown" scheme.

I need help getting the right paints.

the "sand" color is FS 30279
the "light earth" colour is FS 30140

does anyone know if tamiya do these colours (it would have to be in the AS range as i have lost a part to my airbrush) or even just in normal colour so i could try my best at brush painting if needs be. i did manage to mix some colours and get them dead on but i would end up spending about £15 on loads of differnt little pots of paint to mix up into one.

so if anyone can help, or even if somone who can get hold of model master paints of anyther brand that would be willing to get them for me after i payed and ship them over to me that would be great.

its a real pain in the **** getting FS no.s to match tamiya paints so if anyone knows of a converstion table or website anywhere that would be great too!

ok....i've stoped my rambeling now.

Richard

Well, on the one that I made I used a variance of paints:

Tamiya dark earth (lighted) for the brown & Aeromaster Italian sand

I did not have the Model master equivalents at the time, so I worked with those colors were pretty close. I don't know what you could use of hand for the sand color out of the Tamiya line. Either way you're going to still have to mix it up to get the tone right

Here's a sight that might help, but be forewarned that these are the "closest" matches to the other color manufactures and FS numbers. You still may need to work on the tones. What you really should get is a GSA FS Fan Deck. I picked one up years ago it's been s helpful tool ever since!

Here are some sources:

They've gone up quite a bit since I got mine. They were only $20 back in the early 90s.

Shop around and have a look at EBAY as well. You'll proabably find one a lot chaeper through that soruce, albeit used.
