Its a CJ....the releases will be just like the 1/32....CJ kit then block 32 T-Birds....supposedly a D at some point.

Thanks for the help with balls 1....something will turn up.....there's a BUNCH of Aviano guys here....somebody will claim it, LOL!

It won't delay anything....all the block 40 subjects got pushed back untill I see the kit.....if it has a separate rudder...and I'm sure it will, I want to get Aviano's art to fit the separate rudder. I moved some block fiddy subjects up.

I also look forward for this long awaited kit (TAM61098).

Latest info from Tamiya USA:

About the Model

Model represents the F-16CJ (Block 50) as used for USAF SEAD missions.

    - Sleek fuselage including aerodynamic blended wing body design accurately reproduced.

    - Accurately curved bubble top canopy can be assembled in the opened or closed position.

    - Horizontal stabilizers are movable and flaperons can be modeled in both the up or down positions.

    - A range of weapons and accessories are included such as HARM, AMRAAM, and Sidewinder missiles (M & X variants), detachable external fuel tanks, ECM pod, and HTS pod.

    - One pilot figure included and can be depicted with either standard or JHMCS flight helmet.

    - Detailed markings for 3 aircraft, including the 5th Air Force commander's aircraft stationed at Misawa airbase in 2005, are included.

More detailed info from Hobbylink Japan:

Tamiya's upcoming 1/48 F-16CJ (Block 50) will be the first-ever 1/48 kit of the current Falcon that has not been a kit of the A-model tweaked to resemble the C, but will have been designed as a C from the start. As can be seen from their wonderful 1/32-scale kits of this aircraft, they've got the details down, and nearly everything from the larger kit will be present here, too, like that fantastic landing gear detail (omissions will include internal engine detail, and a display stand).

Features will include externally-visible engine fans, etc. front and back, X-type Sidewinders with the smaller fins, flaps positionable in the raised or lowered position, moveable tail fins, a pilot figure with both new (including sighting goggles) and old-type helmets, and even the four IFF antennas in front of the cockpit seen on newly-modified Vipers.

Markings will be included for three aircraft, the commander's plane of the 5th Air Force at Misawa, the commander's plane of the 52nd Fighter Wing in Spangdahlem, Germany, and the 2001 Tiger Meet markings of the 79th FS (seen in the 1/32 release box art, too).

In the following shots (they must be taken during the 45th annual Shizuoka Hobby Show 2006) the 1/48 model looks very great. According to HLJ, the release date is February 2007. Price: About €24.47 Euros; $31.55 USD. It would be great if Tamiya also would release F-16C+ and F-16CG kits in the same scale.

This looks good. I know the 1/48 Hasegawa versions has been around forever, so I'm sure the new Tamiya one should be a nice update.
I'm watching...

My unofficial timeline of the first release of 1:48 kits by different manufacturers looks something like this:

1976 - Tamiya, Monogram
1978 - ESCI (AMT/ERTL)
1980 - Revell
1983 - Hasegawa
1990 - Academy
1994 - Italeri
2007 - Tamiya's new kit

At least related to the known preview pictures, unfortunately this Tamiya kit will not include any air-to-ground weapons which were/are used by F-16CJs during OEF and OIF. Anyone who will give us a general update which of these weapons are still available in 1/48 (GBU-12s, GBU-31 JDAMs, GBU-38 JDAMs, WCMDs, and some different USAF Maverick versions).

I think the deal is they are going to do a block 40 release. The molds are set up for it, and a D as well, so my bet is that they are saving the A2G stuff for that kit.

Now that might give me some time to get a model building area set up in the new house here! Hmmmm..... now if I can just convince my wife that I "need" another F-16 model!

I've seen the plastic and it's going to be near every bit as nice as the 32nd scale kit.

The only real peeve I had was the GE exhaust duct. The exhaust duct is plain Jane and mimics Monogram's typical exhaust "step-down" to a smaller diameter. This is supposed to give it a "depth of perception", but ends up looking as cheesy as Monogram’s attempts. Not only that, but you get the ribbing from the step downs, most inaccurate for a GE (and most others) exhaust duct liner.

While the GE nozzle has divergent/convergent flap/seal detail, it lacks the characteristic "rippling”, as it is on the real nozzle.

The glare shield is still without the de-fog ports, same as in their 32nd scale kits.

The LEFs are molded with the upper wings with the proper 2 degrees nose up position, something no other manufacture has ever done in an F-16 kit, barring separate LEFs that can be positioned by the modeler.

Other than that, it's going to be an outstanding kit and by far the best and most accurate 48th F-16.

Nice model.I must say that this is one of the best models that I have seen in a long time. While the directions way understate the amount of time spent on making these models. It is turned out to be a beautiful models.
