F-22A Raptor officially ready for air to ground operations

January 16, 2006 (by Jeff Hollenbeck) - The U.S. Air Force officially announced that the F-22A raptor is ready to conduct air to ground missions today. While the F-22 may have moved it's "A" from the front to the back of its designation, it has kept all of its attack capabilities, adding value to an already impressive aircraft.

The F-22A is the world's first fifth generation fighter jet, capable of such feats as supercruising and infiltrating high-threat target areas using its unprecidented low observabile characteristics. With the green light for air to ground operations, Raptors will be working to take out the enemy's ground based defenses along with its fighter jets in the air.

The U.S. Air Force rates the Raptor as "overwhelmingly effective" and reportedly considers it to be three times as effective as the F-15 Eagle fighters that it replaces.
