51st Fighter Wing pilot missing after F-16 crash

March 24, 1998 (by Lieven Dewitte) - A pilot assigned to the 51st Fighter Wing, Osan AB (South Korea) is missing following the crash of his F-16 Fighting Falcon, on March 25, over the Yellow Sea, about 60 nautical miles west of Osan. The crash occurred at 8:52 p. m. (5:52 a. m. CST) during a combat training mission.

The cause of the accident is unknown. As of March 26 at 3:30a. m. in Korea (12:30 p. m. CST, March 25), search and rescue operations by U.S. Air Force, Republic of Korea air force and U.S. Navy assets continue.
