Belgian F-16 makes emergency landing at Solenzarra AB

February 7, 2004 (by Stefaan Ellebaut) - During an air-to-air firing exercise at Solenzara AB, located on the Island of Corsica (France), Lieutenant Wouter "Rombo" Rombouts had to make an emergency landing shortly after take off.
Yesterday, during take off, he got a master caution and warning so he decided to land immediately. There seemed to be problems with the brakes on #FA-89 .

The procedure in this case is a landing with use of the arrestor hook. Similar to an aircraft carrier laning, the pilot uses a hook to grab one of three cables at the landing strip.

There was no severe damage reported.

Lieutenant Rombouts already experienced a mid-air collision in December 2003 which the other pilot unfortunately did not survive.
