RTAF F-16 Losses
RTAF have in fact lost two F-16's. The first one was reported as an F-16B of 103 Sqdn, by hard landing. This could be '10318' but that was of course an F-16A. The second was an F-16A of 403 Sqdn, which slid off the runway. I'm guessing (and only a guess) this may have been '40306' (24/38) which hasn't been reported for many years, but this is of course an F-16B. Other F-16's for which I have no reports for a long time are '10301' (1/31), '10317' (17/37) & '40304' (22/38) - a fin marked as '40304' is displayed at Takhli. Nothing else known so far; no dates etc. Both of them were "heavy damage" according to RTAF reports. If you find out more I'd love to know. Steve Darke www.thai-aviation.net

RTAF F-16 Losses (Further Info)
The RTAF has really only lost, or written off one F-16, tail number 91-0067, (aka 2J14, 10318, 18/34). This aircraft was involved in a hard landing following an SFO approach on 15 January 2004. The 403 Sq. at Takhli had an incident with aircraft 90-7022, (aka HN3, 40309, 27/38). On 16 February, 2004, this aircraft was demonstrating a scramble for some RTAF cadets, when the pilot lost taxi control during a high speed turn onto the runway. The aircraft spun 180 degrees and departed the runway, damaging the RH wing, NLG, and structure forward of F.S. 88. This aircraft will be repaired during the upcoming Falcon UP effort for the RTAF. The only other significant incident for the RTAF was in mid March 1999, when aircraft 86-0380, (aka 2K2, 10302, 2/31) landed hard on the RMLG during an SFO practice approach. Leaving the gear down, the pilot initiated a go around while ground crew inspected the gear via binoculars. All cockpit indications and visual exams were good, so the pilot attempted a full stop landing. After weight on wheels, the aircraft settled to the right, coming to rest on the centerline tank and RH wing tip, due to the RMLG being broken at the 341 bulkhead. This aircraft was repaired by the 649th CLSS in early 2000, and the aircraft is now operational. Aircraft 10301, 10317, and 40304 are operational and flying at this time.
