Oh yeah....one more.
F-117 in ODS was credited a MiG-29 when we bombed it. It was taxing into it's shelter, crew dog out there waving. The weapon was targeted on the shelter and when the MiG taxied in to view, the Stealth pilot said "sh*t!"
The aim point then shifted back and forth. Shelter, MiG,shelter, MiG...Boom!
It was moving under it's own power so they gave us the kill. |

if it happened to an enemy "A-4" it would be the funniest kill log ever

Not so fast there, Yute. If one thumbs through the Air to Air Victories in Southeast Asia, you'll come across this entry:
Target destroyed-MiG-17
Aircraft flown- RF-4C
Weapon employed- Centerline drop tank.
Paint a star...it counts!
That is some funny stuff there! Thanks for passing it along! |

You are welcome, I find it interesting that so many people spend so much effort to discover what actually happened during aerial combat. It is a very complex arena, myself and many others seek to understand more fully what is going on.
When you investigate and find the aircraft shot down, the pilot's name, aircraft squadron, serial number, plus the information about the aircraft making the kill, weapon used, etc. and fair amount of work has been placed forward.... the odds of being correct are a lot higher than stating one aircraft killed another on such a date. This is the effort the ACIG team puts into obtaining data.
I also remember reading in AW&ST shortly after the War of Yum Kippur, that the US Government knew exactly what the score was on the number of tanks and aircraft killed on both sides because of the SR-71 flights. The US intell community counted all the tanks and aircraft wreckages each day and knew what types of weapons were destroyed from one day to another. That was the first information for many people that such detail work was done daily to learn exactly what was happening in the conflict.

| I was an IP for one of the first classes of Egyptian pilots converting to the F-16. One of the students was a former MiG-21 pilot who admitted to having been shot down twice by the Israelis, but also claimed an F-4E kill from the '73 war. As I recall his story, he took an unobserved guns kill on an F-4E heading eastbound over the Sinai at 200' AGL and 500+ KIAS. |

| I take that with a grain of salt. Possible, but nothing to back it up. |

Why, there should be gun camera footage to back up his claim. How many fighters pilots would go out of their way to admit they had been shot down twice? To me, that shows some honesty. Gawd knows, the IAF lost a good number of aircraft in air to air combat in that conflict. It was the first war between the two countries in which the Egyptian Air Force was still contesting the air at the end of the conflict! Another interesting fact is, the EAF has more gun camera footage than the IAF admits to losing!
