Hey Bushmaster, I just noticed your location... and your signature (I know I'm blind). Does your name reference the 30mm under the Apache? Hell of a chopper. Prolly a maintenance pig, but so are most all military vehicles. Sadly the image isnt coming up. Stupid cheap internet. So where in Baghdad are ya? PM me if you want to maintain OPSEC a little better. Just curious if you are anywhere around me.
Hey James, sorry about the late response, I was at a FOB last month supporting ops, I am back at base, and back to the stress of things, took me a while to get back... No, never noticed that our gun is made by Bushmaster, I check all the guns I get to work on, nothing but McDonnell Douglas Logo and your regular s/n's, p/n's whatnot... Our birds fly a lot which in turn means 500 hr phase maint. every 6 days, that is quite a pace... Heard there were times, the rate was higher.
My name comes from...

The M230 30mm chain gun on the Apache was designed by Hughes, the original designer (and manufacturer) of the AH-64. The M230 is now manufactured by Alliant Techsystems.

Yes but isnt it "named" the Bushmaster? IIRC it is, but hey, I could be wrong.

The M242 25mm cannon on the M2/M3 Bradley IFVs have the nickname "Bushmaster". I'm not sure of the etymology of the nickname but I've never seen the M230 on the Apache referred to the same way. They're both "chain gun" type cannons.

Yeah, only the 25mm was called the Bushmaster- they even had a humvee remote mount for it at one time. Makes for a nice big game buggy that way!

Havent seen badly messed up gun yet, not this deployment, system is pretty safe, any jam it shuts the whole system down, rounds are fed into the guy with a rail system that runs at 3000 psi, enormous power, sometimes we can't extract the jammed rounds at mission breaks, they have to roll into hangar or flightline.
