I was glancing at that news posting on the home page, how does a Cannon F-16 ( the picture is from the 523rd FS Crusaders ) drop wing tanks when the last bird just left the base a few weeks ago, and that was the 522nd Fireballs....
Was this Crusaders tail with a new squadron and just hasn't been repainted? |

| Yeah, you're right ghettobird, but strange as there are reports about it. A few possibilities, a visitor to Cannon AFB or they mean Kirtland AFB, the 188th FS. |

I slightly adjusted the news article to reflect the uncertainty of the situation.
We have record of the last F-16 leaving Cannon AFB on December 21, 2007 when the 522nd FS closed its doors. Has this been wrongly reported by the USAF? Did some aircraft remain after the closure of the squadron, waiting to be transferred to other units? |

From my bud out at Cannon
"Yes, there are still a couple of jets, all in xfer dock. The jet was taking
off for a flight check prior to Xfer and had a small problem." |

All the 523d and 524th jets are gone, that was just a represenative photo. It more than likely was a red tail. |

| Updated the article again in light of the above provided info. Also changed photo to a 522nd FS aircraft. Thank you ACMIguy. |

The 522nd Fireballs were inactivated on Dec 21, 2007. The last jet was most likely doing a final check flight prior to leaving the base. The last 2 jet will be leaving soon. Goodbye Cannon F-16's! No longer will F-16 crew chief have to come here! |
