Sorry for this stupid topic! But by daily routine searches on "YAHOO! News" I found the following "sci-fi bullshit", also reported by other U.S. news media. Anybody who can provide me the quoted "Air Force Reserve news release"? I searched AFRC´s public main website and some others, but I can´t find any related official news release or news article!!!

UFOs? Nope. They were fighter jets, Air Force says
From Mike Mount
CNN
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Ten Air Force Reserve F-16 fighter jets were the cause of the lights seen over parts of central Texas earlier this month that many believed to be UFOs, according to an Air Force Reserve news release.
The F-16s were on a nighttime training mission over the Brownwood Military Operating Area on January 8, near Stephenville, Texas, the statement said.
A military operating area is airspace designated for military training, according to Air Force officials.
Several people in the area saw lights moving fast across the night sky. The Air Force reported it had no aircraft flying that night, which left people wondering what they saw.
Wednesday, an Air Force Reserve statement from the Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base said it made a mistake in its initial reporting, and that there were planes in the area that night.
"In the interest of public awareness, Air Force Reserve Command Public Affairs realized an error was made regarding the reported training activity of military aircraft," the news release said.
A spokesman for the Air Force Reserve fighter wing, Karl Lewis, said the error in the reporting resulted from an internal communications problem between offices at the base.
Lewis said he received the flight information earlier this week, confirmed it with officials on the base and sent the news release out Wednesday.
The release said the planes were in the area between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., about the time many people reported seeing the lights, according to reporting at the time.
Lewis said the planes were from the 457th Fighter Squadron based at the reserve base outside of Fort Worth, Texas.

"A spokesman for the 301st Fighter Wing at the Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station in Fort Worth said the object that these and other people are seeing could be an illusion caused by two commercial airplanes. Lights from the aircraft would look unusually bright and may appear orange in the setting sun, according to the AP story.
Some folks reported seeing fighter jets chasing the UFO. But the spokesman for the 301st Fighter Wing said no F-16s or other aircraft were in that area the night of Tuesday, Jan. 8, when most people reported the sightings."

Okay so which do you want to believe, the first story or the second?
I still think it was Lord Dick coming in on the mother ship to Crawford. |

Interesting, I wonder what the paa is of this unit? To just happen to have 10 A/C in the air at the same time these accounts took place after they originally said there was no military activity at that time hhmmnn? |

| We get weirdos around here that report UFOs when we're doing night flying missions. Our airport isn't very busy (we're attached to an airport) but when we have 8 jets on final at night you see a perfect string of lights in the sky moving pretty slow. |

| They could also be flares drop from other A/C. At the range outside Gila Bend in Arizona we have orange lights in the sky to light the range for pilots . it is so funny when people think that they are UFO'S. |

Tell me about it. Remember the "Phoenix lights" back in the mid-90s? Morons...
Youse guys want a real laugh? Type in "Montauk Project" into any search engine. There is an entire field of conspiracy nuts who think the old SAGE radar out on Long Island, NY, is some sort of Philadelphia experiment time-travel new world order blah blah blah...
The stuff is entertaining, though... People really fall for this pulp? Makes ya glad Republicans are still running the country. (fer now, anyway) |

I've never known of an F-16 flying "Faster, and closer to the ground" to be all that "quiet"..
Anyone with at least half a brain could recognize and decifer an F-16 or any other fighter from a UFO..
Personally, I've seen both.
*Puts foil hat on*
I say the sighting was legit. |

One thing i did hear on the local news, was they were "chasing" the UFO, and could not gain any ground on it whatsoever.
Not saying it's true, but if there was "something" they were chasing, what was it if they couldn't catch up to it? |

Longer-range depth perception of an unknown object is virtually nonexistent, particularly at night time. Yet many of these “UFO experts” have amazing powers of depth perception and claim they are able to accurately judge distance size and speed of unknown objects even at night. I find their abilities, a little hard to believe (to put it politely).
One of my hobbies is flying remote control model airplanes. I was getting bored with regular flying so decided to try to spice it up by trying night flying. After I became accustomed to it, I would do much of the same things that I do during the day, including advanced aerobatics. On several occasions I've had people come storming down the main road to come out and investigate the “UFO” thinking it was an extraterrestrial vehicle.
After a while I started to get a little bit of a chip on my shoulder, because I didn't know anybody that would do as advanced aerobatics at night. I searched some magazines and the Internet and found a R/C night fly and decided I would go in show off to other people. Much to my pleasant surprise many of the people at the event could fly just as well as me, many even seem to be better. There was one guy that was handing out free luminescent sticks and necklaces that was donated as surplus from a manufacture. One guy took the luminescent necklaces and stuck them all over his airplane so it look like spines, it looked a little like poisonous spined lionfish. It was hilarious. To me the show stealer, was a guy that was flying advanced aerobatics with a helicopter, he had lights in the main and rotor tips that looked quite bizarre and neat while doing aerobatics.
I was joking with some of the other pilots and telling them that people are liable to mistake them for “UFOs” (extraterrestrial vehicles). I told them about my story, and they got a good laugh and said they had similar problems. During the show they hired a policeman to man the entrance gate to the field, to encourage gawkers to either continue driving or to enter in the show to prevent accidents from passerbys that stop and gawk at the “UFOs”.
At the end of the air show (fly in), I turned on the TV to see the local news to see what the weather was going to be like for flying the next night. Sure enough, they had a short story about how some “UFOs” were spotted that night, they even had some poor quality (grainy, shaky and blurry) video of the “UFOs”. They had several locals give eyewitness accounts, that swore up and down that they were large craft traveling at high speed and that no terrestrial aircraft could fly like that.
I talked to the policeman and had a good laugh with him. He said people would drive right past the signs that said it was a radio controlled model aircraft night fly, just to stop a few hundred feet from the sign, to look at the “UFOs”. Apparently despite the signs, many people didn't realize it was a model airplane air show. |

| It's all fun and games until you see one. 4 JUL, 1969. Marina, California. It was at the beach. Gun metal grey 1700HRS so in good light. No weather balloon, swamp gas, planet Venus, meteor, comet, helicopter, blimp, cloud, flares, fighters or intersecting glare from airliners (that's a new one. JEEZ!) |

Well if you guys ever run into a person called Mike Bugno, ask him what happened outside the the small town of Braintree, not far from RAF Wethersfild, UK one evening about 0145hrs just outside the base, in April 1978.
I was with him (we just got off swing shift in the MOC, we used to car pool), what we saw was not from this planet, the speed, maneuverability of this craft was amazing to watch...out of this world for sure. I was there, I saw it too and I will never forget it.
Two British F4's attempted to chase this thing, it was laughable, there was no way in hell anything could keep up with it. It traveled to London which was about sixty miles to the east in the blink of an eye, we watched it, and we watched the F4's trying to run after it.
Then is came straight back over our heads and shot straight up out of site. It was not gas, not a light, not a meteor or flash of light from another aircraft. Reports poured in from London on the 0200hrs news. We reported what we saw, nothing ever came of it, a few years later, something landed outside RAF Bentwaters, the base we were both assigned too.
I know what I saw and I know a cover up when I see one, I have been part of a couple of things not to be discussed..so joke all you guys want, if and when it happens to you, you will feel differently, I guarantee it. |

I saw a lot from Marina Beach, but no UFO’s.
The coolest was one night when we saw a big flash from the Moss Landing PG&E plant and all the lights went out right across the bay including Monterey. What a trip

ROFLMFAO !!!
I haven't seen any UFOs yet, even with a certain facility just up the road to the north
One night many years ago when I was still young I saw what I initially thought was a UFO. I've been an aviation nut for more years than I can remember, but this thing didn't look like an airplane at first. I don't deny I was a bit scared (especially at about 10 years old) as it was coming towards me. It was evening and the light was playing tricks as I finally realized it was a plane when it got close enough. |
