After working real jets my whole life I have the urge now to build a model. I have never built one before and would like some advice as to the best way to get started. I have built model rockets of the Este's type but never a plane or even a car.

Any tips I would love. I have seen some of your pictures here and can't believe the detail. Thanks in advance.

The only advice I can give you is give it time, be patient and don't give up. I did my first model when I was 6 (a 1/72 scale Memphis Belle) and boogered the hell out of it, but I thought it was the best one ever. In the 24 years since then, I've done over 100 and am still learning the all tricks.

Hoi Purple,

Any tips? that is a large question. Best to figure out which kit you would like to build, and then as you work through it, post your progress and ask for tips and advice. People will likely offer all the info you would like.

I'm with Ruud dude on this one. As to what scale? Well that's up to you. What are you most comfortable with? Just not that with the larger scale, the price goes up. A Revell Germany F-16 in 1/72 will run $17. A 1/32 Tamiya F-16CJ, with be about $150. The Tamiya F-16 however, comes in at a respectable $40-$50. As for recommendations on what kits to get, you just got them. For 1/72 and 1/48 though, I also suggest the Hasegawa kits, they are a little bit cheaper, and still #2.
