Your opinions of how to shape the oh so underfunded USAF.
My opinion...
Fund USAF as follows (not all inclusive )
-Stop downsizing people. No one leaves until the war effort is acceptably managed.
-Fund more flying hours
-Fund more spare parts
-Get more pilots away from desks. We spend an assload of cash training these guys and many times only get less than 2000 hours of work out of them. That party has to stop. It is wasteful. You have useable wings and are safe to fly? Guess what? You fly. Your "war college" is the flying squadron. Deal with it.
-Tankers which ever one is cheaper, don't care.
-C-5 upgrades ( to the C-17 fanatics, C-17 is wonderful but it cant do big big stuff)
-C-130J to replace fossils in the C-130 fleet
-CSAR helo
-Large spec ops helo
-Space sensors
-Engine upgrade for A-10
-B-1 upgrades ( avionics and flight controls )
-B-52 SOJ
-E-10
-Fund F-22 up to 380 + ( one squadron in each Wing with EOTS and cheek arrays ) Push past the 380 number as F-15 A-D go away.
-Modernize F-15E (AESA) and buy some gap fillers ( a la SG ) (not a lot) to carry on for years.
-Keep a low rate of F-16s in production to fill out Guard/USAFR as needed, they work, we know how to manage them. Start retiring Block 3x and 4x faster. AESA upgrade. (stressing AESA also for it's supposed lower maintenance claimed by the Raytheon APG-79 Super Hornet pukes)
-Retire A-D F-15s faster
-One squadron of 777-200 LR in a convertable freighter/pax config 17-18 hours of flight with no refuel. This would be for high priority logistics and personnel movement and would not need tanker resources. Point to point. Just like an airline, these don't stop flying.
-Fund R&D for FB-22
-Fund R&D for long range bomber replacement ( non-gold plated )
-Fund R&D and tag along with USN UCAS-D
-V-22 for USAF service cancelled
-JSF for USAF- cancelled ( we can break a modern IADS without JSF. Once enemy big area SAMs and air are down. Stealth isn't needed.
-Fire anyone that comes up with uniform changes
-Eliminate the office of the Secretary of the Air Force. It is too expensive and brings nothing to the fight. We don't have the money or time to support temporary, unskilled help. |

| Yes let's raise taxes , cut programs like base pay , retirement pay and Tricare, BAS and BAQ. Federal funding for roads, flood insurance, close the federal prisons. Do bases really need gyms, theaters, pools, hobby shops, etc. But seriously, Tricare is getting ready to double premiums and co-pays and I half way expect one day for them to go after retirement pay, It's happened in the civilian sector. About the only way to pay for all this stuff would be a doubling of taxes. |

Too many toys, not enough people to fix 'em. I swear to God/Jehovah/Jim Morrison/etc. that if a uniform change is ever mentioned again, I'm going postal. What a huge ****** waste of money. |

Give Fogleman *anything* he wants to return, and finish his just & true eradication of all TQM/QAF idiocy that started this long, winding descent of the USAF into the quagmire of mediocrity apparently soon to be returned.
Sigh.
Then again, why should this "wave" of applied atrophy be any different than the last several dozen bouts of civilian enforced destruction...
