Guys, i just wanna clarify if the older F-16C version like the Block 25 can still be installed with a LANTIRN pod or modified to carry?? Please im needing a accurate response... thanks

All USAF operated Blocks (25/30/32/40/42/50/52) can carry the AN/AAQ-14 target pod and some units still do so for training practice only. These pods are not carried in combat any more - now exclusively Litenings and Snipers are used.

OK henrik... thanks... BTW im a scale modeller and now i am in progress building an F-16C which i wish to model a Block-25 Viper with the LANTIRN... i noticed that only the "big mouths" vipers have the LANTIRN & i think the Blk. 25 has small inlet... thats why i inquired... thank you..

All the block 25s at Luke are currently in the process of getting TGPs. The Ducks just got their first one. So if you are building a Block 25 then the Duck jets would be great to model.

Block-25/32/42/52s all have the "Small Inlet" and Pratt-engines. If You are going to build a Block-25 with the AN/AAQ-14 LANTIRN target pod attached a good candidate will be one of the Block-25s flying in either the 61st FS, 62nd FS or the 309th FS at Luke AFB, AZ.

Target pods are not specific to aircraft inlets but more to specific commands. The ANG now use the Litening or Sniper target pods for their operational units whereas the training units still use the LANTIRN target pod.

The AFRC uses Litenings exclusively and the Active/Overseas units use a mix of all three - LANTIRN target pod, Litening and Sniper.

If You have a specific unit/serial of the aircraft You want to build feel free to ask more about load outs and time frames.

Don't forget the 93FS also had the LANTIRN pods on the block 25 and 32. That was the first AFRC unit to fly them and go to ONW with the LGB's.

Very true indeed and also the 302nd FS at Luke AFB, AZ flew LANTIRN target pods on their Block-32s during 1999/2000.

That's a nice model Henrik. I have an Academy 1:32 scale still in the box. I have to finish the Tomcat for the kid and the Mustang for the wife before I get to build it. How did you get your TGP? I don't want to put the lightning on mine and I don't have any real good hobby modeling stores around here.

The Sniper pod is a 1/72 resin pod made by a friend of mine in Singapore.

Wow... good thing you're a modeller too Henrik!!! Well, its not a USAF Viper that i'm going to model... It would be a "what-if" Viper....

Not entirely true, actually the inlet does have something to do with the targeting pods. You have a different dougnut panel that goes behind the targeting pod pylon and it is dependent on whether you have a large or small mouth intake. I have seen many a unit scramble to make a panel when they get a pylon in with the wrong size intake panel to install.

Do you think that panel would be viewable on a model kit? We switch to the Lighting 2 pod when we transitioned to the big mouth so I have never seen the panel your talking about.
If it's visible do you have any pictures or drawing?
