Yep I know. OPS gets what OPS wants, that why I ask them "do you want fries with that sir?"
Whistle
Been in the sand with your guys a number of times. Cheers As a matter of fact I started out with your sister unit in Holland back in the early 70's. Drool

Thanks ACMIguy!!

I thought so!! Smile

I recall some Spang CJs - 22nd FS - flying with a CBU-89 under one wing and a HARM under the other during OIF in 2003?!

Greetings,

Henrik.

Air Forces Monthly or the Ospey book reported a HARM and either an AGM-65G or GBU-31 or 2 CBU-87 or 1 CBU-103/105 as standard in 2003.

Hi Purplehaze,

I did some research on AF, and could interview the Serbian SAM battery commander, who claims both the F-117 and the F-16 lost. Without of course specifics (which of course you cannot provide), what do you think of their professionalism during AF? How efficient they used their available technology?

Thanks,

Lajes

Did they win.............I didn't think so. They must have been professional as they died very bravely in battle.

Okay....sorry I was a bit of a smart a$$.......We flew Hundreds of sorties every day for 3-4 months. They shot down down two and we saved both pilots......enough said. It was the our 23rd guys flying topcap over the 117 providing protection. Imagine how I felt as the pro super when 4 of our jets aren't back yet, have been gone for 8 hours, and the commander called me to ops.......I feared the worst, but it turned out for the best. We launched 4 more jets on no notice to relieve those guys. However he was extracted right after we launched the other 4 and they all returned safely. That may have been one of the longest combat sorties for a fighter of all time. It was around 10 hours.

That 10 hour sortie is impressive. I thought that maybe the P-51 missions from Iwo over Japan could have been longer, but my limited research shows them to be "only" about 8 hours.

I know, I'm getting far afield from the original topic!

Purplehaze,

Your second answer really helped me to enhance my impression on the Serbian IADS's performance.

Ps: I've written about it before, that me and a friend/colleague of mine identified some "memorabilia" you may have left behind (or the 31st Wing, or the B-1s) in my country in 1999. Eventually held a briefing on US/Western aircraft stores to our EOD team, who originally identified the thing as "CBU bomblet". And of course you don't have to comment on this.

I'm sure we have some UXO's all over this great world from every country who has ever been in a conflict. Even today they still find them in London from the Germans and in Germany from the Allied forces from WW2. The key is don't touch them. Call your authorities at once.

You are right. Clever suff. About 25 (?) years from now you may talk about your experiences with it.

Lajes,

Here is the front page of the Eifel Times, dated July 23, 1999. I have the rest if anyone is interested. The quality isn't great but if you would like ask.
