| I find it hard to believe that the F-35 is much louder than those aircraft listed...esp. the Harrier. I wonder where they got that data? |

| Just anecdotal, but I have heard all of the engines listed running, and the F135 sure seems louder than the others. |

Out of curiosity what is the db @ MIL of the F135 compared to the db of the GE-129 or PW-229 @ MAX AB?
I'm sure it's been tested, but I have no idea where one would find it.
The DOD does all kinds of environmental studies around bases to include noise.
I expected you to be omnipotent (all-knowing). {Actually my question was just rhetorical. I would like to know, but I really didn't expect anyone to know or go to the effort to find out; it was just a point of curiosity}
If you did know the answer off the top of your head I guess we'd have to change your screen name to: That_Engine_God
What makes you think the loud noise is coming from the engines? By any chance are there any female JSF pilots? j/k
Typical female flyer. j/k

Here is some noise information, and a noise plot for Nellis AFB.

For Hickam AFB

For Nellis AFB
Not sure if any studies have been done for the JSF yet. I'm sure the DOD is working on it.... The studies will be required prior to the JSF starting operations in any area.
These noise studies are required under USAF regulation and Federal Law (EPA).
Sorry I didn't know this off the top of my head... but I knew I had seen it! |

Nothing noisier than four B-1’s taking off on a cold, cloudy morning at Nellis … tends to rattle the pigeon sh*t right off the hangar rafters.
I don’t think 35’s will be an issue, especially at Ridgecrest (ever been to China Lake?) |

Most bases, especially fighter bases, conduct have the guys at public health doing the noise surveys yearly or something like that. They give noise monitors to a couple of flightline guys for them to where everyday at work for a week. If we have maintenance that would require and intermidiate run or aug run, we would try to get them down there to see how high the db's read. I would try with public health first. The 135 though??? Try calling Forth Worth.... |

Well most of the monitors given out to maintenance only register up to 150dB or so.
I know when our guys wore them and were exposed to aircraft/engine noise they simply pegged out |
