| You have to use the mini radar, everything in F-16 MRF is simplified for the gamer. |

| Thanks, that'll help. I guess I've just never used the mini-radar before, it seemed too unrealistic to me. But, then again, with the lack of ability to freely turn my head without taking my hands off the controls, I guess this balances things out reasonably enough. |

| Also, using the F4(fly-by view), you can see the missile also if you don't want to use the mini-radar. |

| I'll have to try that one. I've been trying to just use the padlock view. I'll look at my radar MFD to figure out who might be firing at me, padlock him, and look for the missile in that general direction. But the missile doesn't always show up, even when I know I've got the correct bandit selected. |

here is a simple one that works most against BVRs and WVRs as well. As soon as you get a missile fired at you, just turn supersonic and either dive down incase of A2A coming in or up incase of SAMs release a lot of CMs when the missile is in close. its works quite a lot but you dont get a chance to have a shot at the other in WVR mode. But at least missile doesn't hit you. |

| For F-16 MRF I find it best to turn into the incomming missile at speeds around 400-450 knots air speed, (heading strait into the missile). When the missile appears on the Threat Warrning Display half roll. When your plane automaticly releases counters split s while manually releasing counters. Make sure not to pull up back into the path of the missile. For SAMs it is better to immilmen rather then split s. |

In addition to Robert Shaws <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-Combat-Tactics-Maneuvering-New/dp/0870210599/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1268531503&sr=8-1">"Fighter Combat Tactics and Maneuvering"</a> you might also consider Virtual Top Gun (see their website <a href="http://www.digins.com/TopGun/">here</a>
Virtual Top Gun has the advantage of a CD-ROM with air combat maneuvers in animated 3D over Robert Shaws printed page - which is an excellent reference don't get me wrong, I have an older edition myself). With used versions of Fighter Combat Tactics and Maneuvering selling for $15 (which may or may not qualify for Amazon.com's free shipping) and Virtual Top Gun selling for $14.95 PLUS shipping the price difference is negligible unfortunately.
Just throwing in my hopefully those older and wiser than I (or just wiser) can add further to this conversation! Great topic. |

Dear Chaff,
if you want to evasive a missile, please follows my way which [Link pending approval] when your radar sense a missile comes towards, make engine full power 150%, put the missile front of you and rise up your level as fast as possible, and when the missile approach you enough, make a sudden down with hard angle, here your speed will be fast than the missile speed (Gravity), in that critical moment I can evasive the missile (en shaa allaa). You can try and please replay me if you do well, I will be happy for you. Goodbye Chaff |

| I have played F-16 MRF for a few years and Jane's USAF. I don't know exactly how missile evasion is done in reality but on every fighter game i have played i learned the best way to avoid any missile (Long or short range is to put the missile on your beam as soon as you are warned that one is fired at you. Try to find your attacker so you will know where the missile is coming from. Keep the missile to where it is always going straight towards your wing. This makes the missile have to keep turning to track the rear of your aircraft which will burn a lot of its fuel from having to constantly turn. Watch the little map and zoom in really close because when it gets so close it will be visible on the map. When it gets almost to you (your plane automatically starts shooting stores, that's when you turn up on your side and break hard into the direction of the incoming missile while shooting stores. NOTE: Flares are only for heat seeking missiles and chaff is to break the enemy's radar lock on you. Stores don't really help you all that much on the game. You can avoid one without firing one store if you do it right. Also another way to help the enemy to lose radar lock is to fly low and turn your radar off (R key) Make sure to turn it back on later. Flying at high altitudes (20,000 to 30,000 ft is better than flying low because when a missile is coming at you from a lower altitude it will burn up the missiles fuel and slow it down making it that much easier to avoid. Flying at altitudes at 35,000 and above makes it hard for SAM missiles to hit you because they cant travel very far. |

There is still a community for this game (F16 MRF).
There is also fixes, and files you can download, to make the game better.
Like a file that allows you to enable hardware acceleration (glide)
Also a map editor, and more
This is MaD*DoG D*A from way back, been keeping the game alive.
Hopefully some of you will come back and play some more. =)

Terrain masking seems to work if I'm against older Russian aircraft, such as the MiG-23. But against a Flanker or Fulcrum, or even another Viper, it doesn't seem to work.
Don't be surprised, all those bad boys have Doppler pulse radars so unless you're hiding behind a terrain feature, flying low won't help you much. As for not doing things wrong, don't sweat it. Anything that gets classified as an AMRAAM, be it Alamo, Adder or Slammer is damn hard avoid. Particularly the Slammers and the Adders.
Thats somewhat innacurate. As you said those missiles seekers, or aircraft radars for that matter relly on doppler shift efect. There is no such shift on the beam, much less down low against the false reflections on the ground clutter and lock will be broken. The missiles failure rate increases in those conditions and this can be exploited. Granted its not easy, and while your evasive youll lose the initiative to the enemy.
Also very few Simulations based on PC platform even simulate doppler shift and gorund clutter as well as ECM. 2 of Which are falcon 4 and Lockon Flamming cliffs.
You can practice evasion techinques but dont expect to be successful in real time using exact same manuvers.
Doppler and ECM charestics are heavilly scripted and/or tremendously simplified.
Nova Logic SIM's or Janes Simualtions are simply too primitive to model this so dont expect the evasion techinques to have the same effecteviness, you need a much more sophisticated and modern software like the simulations above mentioned. |

played MRF long time back...not at all realistic ...anyway When the missile gets launched , you would hear a particular beep as a warning. When u hear that tone , engage your burner and get ready (in case) to turn like hell. On the top right edge of your screen you have the mini radar with a "V" in it. zoom in on this screen with S/W keys. When the missile gets near you, around 7-10 NM, you will see a red line moving towards your aircraft. turn in such a way that the red line is heading straight towards you....simply put , just make your plane head straight towards the aircraft and when the missile is around 5 NM out , initiate a 60-65 degree dive at max burner. Always works |

| I really hope that Newbie is right and that there is a community for this game, I never really found a game on the IBS. I would like to know where and how to find multiplayer games, for some reason searching for a server never works even with the patch, any ideas of what I need to do? |
